How much does therapy cost?
I believe in making therapy as accessible as I can, so I use a sliding-scale fee structure. This means that the people who can afford to pay more subsidize those who may not be in as great of a financial situation. My scale ranges from $130 per 50-minute session to $90 per 50-minute session. When we meet for the first time, we’ll talk about your personal financial situation and what you feel you can afford.
Do you take insurance?
I am not currently in-network with any insurance companies, but I do offer “superbills” to clients who want them. A superbill is a document that has all the information an insurance company would need to process a claim. If you decide you want to try a superbill, you’ll pay for the sessions yourself and then submit the superbill to your insurance company to see if they’ll reimburse you for any portion of the cost you’ve paid for therapy.
Do you have scholarships available?
I recognize that for many people (particularly in our current economy), my current sliding-scale amounts are financially inaccessible. For that reason, I have created several scholarship spots which allow for significantly reduced cost or pro-bono services. They are assigned on a first come, first serve basis and therefore are not always available. If you have extenuating circumstances and would like to discuss the option of a scholarship, please don’t hesitate to reach out!
Do you offer free consultations?
Yes! I offer free 20-minute consultations that can be scheduled via phone or video. Consultations give us a chance to meet each other, ask some basic questions about working together, and make sure we’re a good fit before we schedule any ongoing sessions.
How will I be billed and/or how do I pay for therapy?
When you are a new client on my caseload, you will be asked to provide your credit card information as well as an authorization for me to run your card after each session. These documents will be completed through my HIPAA-compliant electronic health record system, so I will never have access to your full credit card number but can use it for authorized session payments. You can use your credit card or HSA/FSA card for these payments.
How often will we meet for therapy?
Frequency of therapy depends on a few things including 1) your current distress level, 2) your financial resources, and 3) your schedule. I’ll make recommendations about how often I think we should meet, but ultimately the decision is up to you! We can talk through all of the details and decide together in our free consultation or during our first session. Also, frequency often changes throughout the course of therapy so it’s something we’ll continue to evaluate as we work together.
What is your no show/late cancellation policy?
Because your session time is reserved just for you, I request 24 hours notice if you need to cancel your appointment so I can open that time for others. If you notify me of a cancellation with less than 24 hours notice, my policy is to charge half of your regular session fee. If you no-show (i.e. don’t notify me and don’t attend your session) or cancel within 2 hours of your appointment, my policy is to charge your full session fee. If there is an emergency, please let me know as soon as possible and we can discuss options.
How will I know if I’m making progress?
At the beginning of therapy, I’ll ask you lots of questions about your background and about what you’re hoping to work on. Together, we’ll set some goals and talk about what progress might look like for you. In terms of progress, we’re typically looking for things like you feeling more confident, less distressed or anxious, more competent at using adaptive coping skills, etc. We can always have a conversation about this if you feel like you’re not making progress, so don’t be afraid to bring it up!
How are you managing sessions during COVID-19?
Having been fully vaccinated, I opened my physical office location the first week of May 2021. If you are interested in coming to meet with me in person, I ask that you be fully vaccinated as well to minimize risk to others. Masks are optional; I would be more than happy to wear one at your request. If you’re not comfortable meeting in person or if it’s not convenient for you, I also offer online sessions.
Do you provide clinical supervision for provisionally licensed therapists?
Unfortunately, in the State of Utah, provisionally licensed therapists can’t select or pay for their own supervision. That said, I love providing clinical supervision and I do contract with companies to provide that and other mental health services. If you’re a provisionally licensed therapist (e.g. CSW, ACMHC, etc.) interested in working with me for your clinical supervision, ask your employer to reach out and we can chat about a contract!
